Stephen T. Cullum Photography, Galway

The reverse of many photographs taken in Galway in the 1950s and 1960s bear the purple stamp of Stephen T. Cullum, whose studio was located on Dominick Street.

In the early 1950s, Mr. Cullum offered local student, Liam P. Donnelly (better known as Paschal), a part-time job taking photographs in Salthill during the day, and in the Hangar and Seapoint dancehalls when the sun had set on Galway Bay. His job was to ‘snap’ people enjoying themselves and hand out tickets. These tickets could then be brought to a caravan on Rockbarton Road, Salthill, from where the image could be viewed on a contact sheet, and the souvenir photograph ordered.

These photographs are shared, with Liam's kind permission, in the hope of identifying some of the faces. Can you or someone you know help? Please post your comment here or email museum@galwaycity.ie
