May Altar

About this custom

This happens every year in S.N. Iorball Sionnaigh, Scotstown, Co. Monaghan, where a May altar is placed in the main area of the school. Other classes place altars in their rooms and bring in local wild flowers to decorate the altar. Children also learn to sing ‘A Mhuire Mháthair’ during the month of May and sing it also as First Holy Communion in the nearby church which always takes place before the end of May.
