Daniel O'connell's Chariot

By Mark Moynihan, 2nd Year

Object No. 78 Daniel O'Connell's 'chariot', 1844
Derrynane House,Caherdaniel Co Kerry

Many days in prison have passed

Daniel O’Connell will be free at last

he exits the confinement of the large prison gates

as his wonderful chariot at the entrance awaits

making a difference and leading the crowd

he pulls his hat off to take a bow

tthe chariot is pulled by strong white horses

as he waves with glee to the dancing corpses

the history and ruin will never go away

as a great success he will become one day

as the chariot comes to a halt

he dreads of prison as it was not his fault

the last king of Ireland takes the crown

as the children and parents are forced to bow down
